Fundraiser Event for CARE's Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Fund
About the Crisis in Ukraine
Less than a month after Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the country’s humanitarian situation has surpassed even the worst-case predicted scenarios. Neighbouring countries are seeing huge refugee influxes, largely women and children. More than 3 million people, including 1.4 million children, have left Ukraine in search of safety. The U.N. is estimating 18 million people will be affected by the conflict, including 7.5 million who are likely to be internally displaced. These figures are based on a volatile and fast-moving situation on the ground, with people urgently seeking safety.

As many of you know, Lulu Games was named after Steve’s wonderful grandmother Lulu. You may not know that she was born in a small town outside of Kyiv just before WWII. As you may have guessed, this whole crisis hits very close to home. It’s kept us up at night to think that today the people of Ukraine are living Grandma Lulu’s devastating childhood stories. We feel the need to help, and we’re sure many of you do as well.
Join Us and Game for Ukraine
On Saturday April 9th we will be hosting a Game for Ukraine Day! Join us in store for BYOG (Bring Your Own Game) Gaming, Mini Painting, and a Silent Auction with all proceeds going to the amazing charity group CARE to aid their efforts in Ukraine!
With such limited space, Gaming and Painting will be by ticket only. Tickets will be sold ahead of the event (of course, if any remain they will be sold day of, but please do not count on tickets being available day of). In hopes of maximizing space and donations, Gaming and Painting will be separate events with their tickets sold separately.
Silent Auction: We've reached out to all our partners and vendors and are putting together an amazing auction. Near the gaming area, we will have an area with lots to bid on. Lots will vary from Specialty Dice Sets, Board Games, Wooden Storage Boxes, Previously Loved Games Lot, Collectibles, Warhammer, and more. The auction will close at 7pm and winners will be announced but don't worry if you can't stay until then we'll contact you after the event to collect your winning! All proceeds will go directly to CARE’s Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Fund.
Gaming: This event is BYOG – Bring Your Own Game. Come with your favourite games, a willingness to teach those games, and a great big smile. Gaming will be hosted on the main floor of the store. A ticket is required. 100% of the ticket price will go to CARE’s Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Fund.
How Can I Help?
First and foremost – come out to show your support and have a great time! Even if you’re only visiting for the auction, your presence is a great show of support.
Other ways to help:
- Donate to the silent auction. We will be taking donations of Previously Loved Games, Collectibles, Warhammer, and more to put together lots for the auction. We will be taking donations until Thursday April 7th.
- Donate Direct. We will be taking direct donations for CARE up until closing on April 9th.
About CARE’s Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Fund:
CARE has launched a humanitarian appeal to support the most vulnerable Ukrainians, particularly women-headed households and the elderly. The goal of our Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Fund is to provide life-saving assistance to 4 million people who have been impacted by the conflict.
CARE’s responses will be regional and leverage partnerships in affected countries. Our priority is to meet the immediate needs of affected families through the distribution of critical food and water supplies, as well as hygiene kits, cash assistance and psychosocial support.
